She was the oldest child of the late Sam and Ruby Shirley of Central, SC.Louise graduated from the Greenville SC School of Nursing in Nov. 1943 and served as a nurse in the US Army Air Corps in Europe at the end of WWII and during reconstruction. She later worked as a nurse in the woman's and youth prison in Lorton, VA. After her husband retired from the Army, they resided in the Widewater Section of Stafford, VA. She recently resided at the Richard M. Campbell Veteran's Home in Anderson, SC.Survivors include her children, Ellen Russell of Anderson, SC, Jake Gooch and his wife, Sally of Jacksonville, FL and Robert Gooch and his wife, Debbie of Fredericksburg, VA; brothers, Vernon, Bill and Dwight Shirley; sisters, Sara James and Helen Cobb; five grandchildren, Richard Gooch of Clemson, Aroch Waldron Fredericksburg, VA, Amber Parker, Joshua and Jonathan Gooch of Jacksonville, FL and five great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 11:00 am at M. J.
