Yvonne Gambrell Harrison, 76, of Easley entered eternal rest on Monday, September 26, 2022. Yvonne was the loving wife of John G. E. Harrison III for 53 years. The oldest daughter of the late Lt. Col. Robert L. Gambrell and Flossie Steen Gambrell, she was born in Hattiesburg, MS on August 1, 1946.
Yvonne faithfully served on the Altar Guild at Bethesda UMC and was a member of the Irene Cely Sunday School Class. She was an enthusiastic educator for over 30 years and retired from Wren High School in 2008. Yvonne mentored many young educators during her career.
She was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College and Clemson University.
Her family was her greatest joy. She gave new meaning to the term doting and loving grandmother. Her friends were always reminded of her love through her constant supply of home baked treats. Her students were each remembered with love and pride.
In addition to her husband, Yvonne is survived by her three children, John IV (Brantley Grogan) of Greer; Jeanne Bollinger (Curtis) and Joshua (Jamie McCauley) of Easley; her eight grandchildren, Evans Harrison, Fox Harrison, Harrison Bollinger, Margaret Bollinger, Clara Ann Bollinger, Pierce Harrison, Edee Kate Harrison, and Creede Harrison. In addition, Yvonne is survived by her siblings Teresa (Teri) Watson of Atlanta, Sara Jeanne Gambrell (John Huckabee) of Baton Rouge LA, and Col. (ret.) Robert L Gambrell Jr (Sheila) of Tuscaloosa AL; six nieces and nephews and their spouses and children. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her brother-in-law Joedy Watson.
The Celebration of Life will be held at Bethesda UMC in Powdersville at 2:00 pm, Sunday, October 2, 2022. A reception will follow. Interment will be private.
Yvonne was a valiant warrior against cancer and in her church. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Bethesda UMC, 516 Piedmont Road, Easley, SC 29642 or to the American Cancer Society, P O Box 11796, Charlotte, NC 28220.
