His grandfather and grandmother, Dewey and Treca Capps, owned and operated American Eagle Vault Company in Enka, NC for several years. His father Bobby worked at this vault company and learned at an early age that his passion was for funeral service. After graduating from The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and completing an apprenticeship at Groce Funeral Home in Asheville, NC, his father Bobby purchased Holcombe-Capps Funeral Home in Mars Hill, NC and that business still operates as Blue Ridge Funeral Service and Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel today. While working in the summers washing cars, putting up hill side funeral tents, and placing grave markers for his father’s business, Todd knew in his mind that someday he too, would pursue funeral service as a career. Todd graduated from Pfeiffer University 1995 where he played baseball for the Falcons and graduated with honors with a B.S. in Biology. Shortly after his graduation from Pfeiffer, Todd attended and graduated with honors from Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service in Decatur, GA under the expert teaching of Dr. Daniel E. Buchanan and was the recipient of Dr. Buchanan’s award for his display of enthusiasm while there at Gupton-Jones. Todd was a member of Pi Sigma Eta Academic Fraternity. Since graduation, his career has been a successful one including ownership of his own business in Burnsville, NC, Yancey Funeral Service, which still operates today. Todd possesses a dual license for funeral directing and embalming in both North Carolina and South Carolina and a Life and Health Insurance License in South Carolina. Todd is also a Notary Public. “Although funerals are not good experiences, it’s my goal as a funeral director to sincerely create a positive funeral experience for each client family I have the privilege of serving.” Todd has been with The McDougald Funeral Home since July of 2013.
